About Sutika Home

What is Sutika Home?

Sutika Home is a postnatal and prenatal care service, run by experts in postnatal care and Ayurveda. We bring doctor-guided, Ayurveda-informed care to mothers at home, after a normal delivery or a C-section, and during pregnancy.

Who runs Sutika Home?

Sutika Home is run by experienced professionals in postnatal care and Ayurveda. Your care is guided by a doctor and given by trained therapists who visit you at home.

Where do you offer care?

Tell us your city and area when you get in touch, and we’ll let you know how we can support you where you are.

After birth

Postnatal care at home

What is postnatal care at home?

Postnatal care at home is care for the mother in the weeks after birth, given in her own home. With Sutika Home, a trained therapist visits every day for traditional therapies such as Abhyanga (warm oil massage) and Vethukuli (herbal bath), with diet guidance, all guided by a doctor.

What’s included in a postnatal plan?

Every plan includes daily visits with Abhyanga, Vethukuli, Udara Veshtana (tummy binding), Kesh Dhoopanam (herbal hair fumigation, every other day), Anjana (traditional eye care) and diet guidance. You can add extras such as Kizhi, face and hair packs, baby massage and baby bath.

How long are the postnatal plans?

Plans run for 7, 14, 28 or 40 days. Many families choose 40 days, the traditional confinement period, but the right length depends on your recovery and your family’s needs. We’ll help you decide on your first call.

When can postnatal care begin?

Usually soon after you come home from hospital. Your doctor’s advice decides the timing, especially after a C-section.

Can I have postnatal care after a C-section?

Yes. After a caesarean, therapies are adapted: massage and tummy binding stay away from the wound and begin only when your doctor is happy with how you’re healing.

Is postnatal massage safe while breastfeeding?

For most mothers, yes. Care is planned with breastfeeding in mind, and your diet guidance supports it. If you have any concerns, check with your doctor or lactation consultant.

Is this the same as hiring a japa maid?

No. A japa maid usually helps with the baby, cooking and household tasks, often for long hours. Sutika Home focuses on the mother’s recovery: trained therapists give traditional postnatal therapies under a doctor’s guidance. Some families choose both.

Tradition

Ayurveda and tradition

What is Sutika Paricharya?

Sutika Paricharya is the Ayurvedic tradition of caring for a mother after childbirth. It includes rest, warm and easily digested food, oil massage, herbal baths and binding the abdomen, traditionally over about 40 days. Sutika Home’s care follows this tradition, adapted to modern medical advice.

What is Abhyanga?

Abhyanga is a full-body massage with warm herbal oil, given with slow, rhythmic strokes. In postnatal care it is traditionally used to ease tired muscles and help the mother rest.

What is Vethukuli?

Vethukuli is a warm herbal bath, traditionally given after the oil massage in South Indian postnatal care.

Do I really need to rest for 40 days?

The 40 days is a tradition rather than a medical rule. What matters is enough rest, food and support while your body recovers, which for most mothers takes at least six weeks. Your doctor can advise what’s right for you.

During pregnancy

Prenatal care

What is prenatal care at home?

Prenatal care at home is gentle care during pregnancy, alongside your antenatal check-ups. With Sutika Home it can include a consultation, diet and routine guidance, pregnancy massage with your obstetrician’s go-ahead, and planning your care after the birth.

What is Garbhini Paricharya?

Garbhini Paricharya is the Ayurvedic tradition of caring for a mother during pregnancy: nourishing food, a calm daily routine and gentle care, adjusted month by month.

Is pregnancy massage safe?

For many women it can be comfortable and relaxing, but it isn’t suitable for every pregnancy. We only offer it when your obstetrician agrees, and our therapists adapt positions and pressure for pregnancy.

Can I book postnatal care while I’m pregnant?

Yes. Many mothers plan their postnatal care during pregnancy so the first days at home are arranged in advance. Share your due date when you get in touch.

Practical

Booking, cost and the app

How do I book?

Request a call back on our Contact page with your due or delivery date and your area. Our care coordinator will call you to talk through your needs and the right plan.

How quickly will you get back to me?

We usually call back within a couple of hours during our working hours, Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 8 pm. If you get in touch later in the evening or on a Sunday, we’ll usually call you on the next working day.

What are your working hours?

Our team is available Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 8 pm.

How much does postnatal care at home cost?

The cost depends on the length of your plan and any extras you choose. We share a clear quote on your first call, before you decide anything.

Can I extend my plan or add extras later?

Usually, yes. Talk to our team and we’ll check what’s possible for your dates.

What is the Sutika Home app?

It’s a simple app for mothers in our care. You can see your next visit, track the sessions left in your plan, check in each day, log your baby’s feeds and sleep, and message our team. It opens in your phone’s browser, so there’s nothing to download. Create your account.

What if I need to change a visit time?

You can ask to move a visit in the app or by contacting our team, and we’ll try to find a time that suits you.

Your safety

Safety and medical care

When should I see a doctor after delivery?

Contact your doctor or go to the nearest hospital straight away if you have heavy bleeding, fever, a red or leaking wound, a severe headache or changes in your vision, chest pain or breathlessness, a painful swollen leg, or thoughts of harming yourself or your baby.

When should I see a doctor during pregnancy?

Contact your obstetrician straight away if you have bleeding, leaking fluid, your baby moving less than usual, a severe headache or changes in your vision, sudden swelling, severe tummy pain, fever, or regular contractions before 37 weeks.

Does Sutika Home replace my doctor?

No. Our care supports, and never replaces, your obstetrician and your baby’s paediatrician. Please keep all your check-ups.
